We love when our customers share the how behind their community building. When Colleen Stimola from Glean and her team launched the new ✨ Gleaniverse community✨, the first version went live on a tight timeline. It worked, but it didn’t fully capture the energy of Glean’s brand. Colleen managed the redesign on her own, finding creative ways to work within the resources she had. Her solution was to combine Canva and AI. The workflow looked like this: - Sketch layouts and styles in Canva - Export and feed them into AI to generate the first pass of the CSS and theme code - Drop the code into Higher Logic Vanilla and see what translated - Adjust, test, and repeat until the branded experience felt right This is just one part of the Gleaniverse story, but it’s a great example of how community teams can use AI to bridge the gap between design concepts and implementation. Colleen shared screenshots, examples, and the full workflow in the Vanilla Success Community for anyone curious about the details. Link in the comments. 🙌 Huge kudos to Colleen and the Glean team for opening up their process and sharing the lessons learned so others can benefit too.

Begging other departments to care about your community? They’ll never buy in if it sounds like more work. Brad Hornback, our Senior Community Success Manager, has seen this play out before. You walk into a meeting with a list of requests. The other team sees nothing but time they don’t have and tasks that don’t map to their priorities. But if you flip the conversation, and show how community helps them hit their targets, the reaction changes instantly: - What looked like a burden becomes a chance to collaborate - “One more task” becomes “one less thing on my plate” - And the things that help them succeed usually drive your community’s success too Because community has always been about helping people. Inside your org, it’s no different. Instead of asking for support, try leading with this: 👉 “How can community help you meet your goals?” And if you’re not sure where to start: - In your next chat with support, marketing, or product, ask: What’s the #1 goal your team is under pressure to hit this quarter? Then map back to how community lightens the load. - Start small. Pick one department, prove value early, and use those wins to scale buy-in across the org.

🎧 Tune into this recent episode of the Association Hub podcast with our very own, Rob Wenger! #AssociationPodcast Angela Shelton
Helping association leaders think big, lead change & find their people. Connector of people & ideas. Host of Association Hub Podcast and Editor of Associations Evolve Journal.
Rob Wenger dropped a line on the Association Hub podcast this week that stopped me in my tracks... “Google is dead.” Now before you roll your eyes hear me out. He is not saying search engines are gone. He is saying the way people find answers has fundamentally changed and associations are either ready for that shift… or they will be left behind. Here is the part I loved! Associations have a massive often overlooked advantage. We are the keepers of content. Decades of journals research standards conversations and expertise all in one place. That is not just information. That is credibility. That is trust. And in an AI first world trust is the currency. The question is... what are we doing with it? Are we structuring content for the way people now search? Are we amplifying the voices of our knowledge creators? Are we building teams that can adapt fast enough? Because if we don't, someone else will. This episode with Rob is a challenge to all of us, to stop treating your association’s knowledge as a library. Start treating it as your biggest strategic advantage. You can hear the full episode here 👉 https://bit.ly/3HK1gWV

Community reporting is one of the biggest pressure points for community managers. You’re asked to “prove ROI,” but the reality is most metrics don’t speak for themselves. That’s why Heather Wendt’s framework is useful. It starts with what leaders care about. Almost any community insight can ladder up to one of the 3 R’s: Retention, Revenue, or Reputation. That’s the language executives are fluent in. The other piece that makes it work is the recommendation. Too many reports stop at what happened. “Engagement is down.” “Onboarding questions are spiking.” On their own, those are just observations. What leaders want, and what gives the numbers weight, is what's next. Should CS investigate these accounts? Should product prioritize a fix? Should marketing package this into a story? Reporting is presenting the metrics and guiding the decision. Heather’s post is a great template for building that muscle.

𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀? 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗮 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 If you’ve never had to present community data before, it’s easy to feel stuck. ❓ What should I say? ❓What if I don’t have dashboards? ❓ How do I know what leaders even care about? Here’s the good news: You don’t need perfect numbers. You just need a clear story that ties to a real business goal. 𝙐𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 4-𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙪𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙣𝙚𝙭𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙪𝙥𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙚: 1. What you noticed (start with the insight) - “Over the last month, we saw a 25% increase in questions about [topic/feature].” - “Enterprise users are logging in less frequently post-onboarding.” - “There’s been a spike in peer-to-peer support in the [X] group.” 2. Why it matters (link it to the business) - “This suggests customers are confused about [feature], which may affect adoption.” - “Lower engagement could signal churn risk for key accounts.” - “Increased peer support is helping us reduce reliance on CS for basic questions.” Not sure what it ties to? Use the 3 R’s: 𝘙𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘙𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘦, 𝘰𝘳 𝘙𝘦𝘱𝘶𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 3. Who should care (tailor it to the audience) - If talking to Customer Success → “This could impact renewal rates or customer health.” - If talking to Product → “We may need better in-app education or UX improvements.” - If talking to Marketing → “There’s a story here we could share externally.” 4. What you recommend (or will track next) - “Let’s dig deeper into these users’ behavior with CS.” - “I’ll track this through the next launch cycle and share trends.” - “We should tag these threads for future content gaps.” The goal isn’t to impress. The goal is to inform and guide. Whether you're building your first dashboard or reporting out in Slack, this template works. Keep it: 🔵 Focused 🔵 Business-relevant 🔵 Actionable 𝙃𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙜𝙜𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙖 𝙩𝙤 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥? 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩’𝙨 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥𝙚𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙠 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝—𝙤𝙧 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜?
