NZIQS Creates Member-To-Member Connection Through Online Community

The Opportunity

NZIQS was looking for a way to support member-to-member connections and attract student and younger members who weren't engaging with newsletters and emails.

The Solution

They used Higher Logic Online Community to create a community for members to network, communicate and help each other – younger members especially appreciate the collaborative, online space.

Bringing Members Together Virtually

Prior to adopting an online community, NZIQS’s communication with members was usually by mass communication and events. The association would send out a newsletter and correspond with some members via email, but member engagement on the newsletter was low. They wanted to find a way to connect members with each other in a meaningful way, especially those who couldn’t attend events. They were also looking for new ways to reach student and younger members because the traditional methods (newsletters and emails) weren’t working.

With an online member community, NZIQS’s members can now connect with each other digitally to network, communicate and help each other – and younger members appreciate the collaborative, online space.

“When I saw Higher Logic Community, I knew it was exactly what we wanted. Before, it felt like we were mainly communicating with newsletters. But community is so powerful; our members can connect with each other to network, communicate and help each other.”

Community Increased Member Engagement

Their new community, NZIQS Connect, is growing organically. NZIQ has noticed members they’ve never heard from before via email, or seen at an event, jumping into the community to answer questions and discuss. Long-time members love sharing their wisdom and advice in the discussions. Members discuss topics that NZIQS and the board weren’t aware were issues, which has enabled the association to react and respond to show members they’re listening.
